Social Mapping in the Canton of Sarajevo

Project description

The Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is currently supporting the government of the Canton of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in the development and introduction of an integrated monitoring instrument for socio-spatial analysis, for which more than 12,000 households will be interviewed face-to-face in several phases.

The aim is to identify the needs of the population - also in socially disadvantaged regions -, to reduce the risk of poverty and emigration rates, and to enable the development of an effective social system. Overall, the quality of life in the canton of sarajevo is to be improved, especially in the area of social welfare and social assistance benefits. The integrated monitoring instrument to be introduced is to be used to identify current needs for action. It will serve as a basis for social policy decisions. In addition, it will offer opportunities for internal strategic control, which will support social policy decisions and make them more transparent.

A Mapping of social services or Social Mapping is based on a socio-spatial analysis with the aim of establishing, perpetuate and in future expanding the corresponding data collection and monitoring in administrative action.

Within the framework of the project, I am responsible for advising politicians and administrators, in close coordination and work-sharing with the project partners in the fields of

  • Questionnaire design and method,
  • Sampling,
  • data and result visualization and its communication.

The project includes several days of intensive work on site in Sarajevo. The project language is English.
