Project description

The Brandenburg administrative district of Dahme-Spreewald (LDS) is characterized by a wide variety of spatial and structural features. On the one hand, there are communities in the north that profit from the population and economic growth of the Berlin metropolitan region in the surrounding area of Berlin, and on the other hand, there are communities in the south that earn their living primarily from tourism, but otherwise have to struggle with infrastructural weaknesses and challenges.

Between the topics Living, working and Infrastructure Against this background, this study, with a focus on the South, analyses the central issue of housing in the context of economic development (and thus: jobs and employment; tourism) and infrastructure.

The dynamics and opportunities of the (external) macro-trends shaping the district and the challenges of the (internal) development of the LDS require a status quo analysis and a strategy development based on this analysis. Only through integrated planning - especially of housing and economy - can the southern area of the LDS be successfully positioned as a future-oriented and competitive area and as an important economic and attractive living space alongside the northern area.

As a result of the study, a reliable basis for the interests of the municipalities of the southern region in the processing of later concepts for district development should be established.

Within the framework of the project, I carry out, in close coordination and division of labour with the project partners, data research and data preparation for numerous indicators for status quo analysis, in particular on the topic of economy and tourism. Besides desktop research, GIS and the use of alternative (online) data sources are also used. In a leading role, I accompany the participation processes in strategy development with local actors in workshops and support the transfer of participation results into recommendations for action.
